Halloween in Hinton is not simply carting the kids from random door to random door on a quest for lots of candy, rather it is a time for visiting. People almost always invite you inside their homes and then they always want to take pictures of your kids with their own cameras. Hinton is a place where people still make homemade popcorn balls and hand them out and not only do you not mind if your kids grab them, you are secretly willing them to so that you can enjoy their tastiness as well.
This year Jack picked a Toy Story theme and so Jack dressed as Buzz Lightyear and Beau went as Woody. Papa Chip even got in on the action and went as one of the little army men. We had a great time and I still don't think Jack has come down from his sugar high. That boy loves his candy!!

Very cute! I love the costumes, and I myself would like to come trick-or-treat in Hinton. I can't even remember the last time I had a homeade popcorn ball.
I love it! I know it may not be for everyone, but I really miss living in a small town. My husband and I were just discussing popcorn balls the other night and how we missed them. Your kids look cute in their costumes!
Awww they are so cute!!! I know you all had a great time; I miss being able to do the small town Halloween...It's so much fun!!
The boys looked so cute! I actually made popcorn balls this year. I know its hard to believe!
They look absolutely cute in their costumes!! I thought Eli was going to change his mind on me at the last minute and want to be Buzz. He saw your son's picture and loved it. Glad everyone had fun!
Thanks girls! And Devin, you are welcome to come out here next year if you'd like. We saw a lot of bigger trick-or-treating groups going around in the back of a trailer with hay-bales for seats. I thought it looked like so much fun!
I told Clay this year that I missed the popcorn balls! MMMMM! There was one house on my street that always gave out a regular size candy bar, not the minis, a regular one. That was exciting.
The best popcorn ball this year had candycorn in it...I will have to try that for next year. As for the full-size candy bars, people around here still hand those out. Jack and Beau both came home with full-size packages of M&M's and big Hershey Bars!! I am ashamed to admit I stole one of the M&M bags : )
How I wish I lived in a town that was that friendly and social! Depending on what neighborhood you go to, certain parts of San Diego are also very friendly, but still not like what you described! I suppose that is only natural in a city this size though. (Although at Christmas, there is a house that sells home popped kettle corn and hot cocoa and we buy some every year to enjoy while we walk around looking at lights, so I suppose there is still a touch of that here!)
Living in a small town definitely has its perks but I am still a big-city girl at heart...and am so jealous that you live in San Diego!
I love that someone sells kettle corn and hot cocoa out of their home. What a great idea!
The costumes are great!
Thanks, Amy!
