One sick mama

So, quick question: What happens when the mama gets sick? Does the whole household stop functioning and ultimately fall apart? Do the kids run around in mismatched clothes with snot hanging from their noses? Does pizza become a staple? Does the house tend to look like an F5 tornado ripped through it?

I have been laid-up in bed for two days straight now, except for the 15 minutes I ran to the doctor's office today only to find out I am suffering from a severe case of strep throat...yay! It was during my short little walk from the bedroom to the backdoor that I noticed my pit of a home. I am trying not to worry about it too much (the Lortab is helping out with that); after all, my husband has been a really good sport about the whole thing. He took today off work and I think plans to go in for only a few hours tomorrow, all so he can watch the kids for me. But still...

So what happens at your house when you all get sick, or are you just better people than I am, and suck it up and go on with life? My mom was that type of person. I never remember her getting sick. She couldn't. She wouldn't. She was Super Mom and I...well, I'm just a big pansy.

Girl, I'm sorry you are so sick. :(

My mom was/is the same way. Everything is always done and organized..yada, yada. LOL!

You're not alone. If I'm not taking care of the house then NO ONE is! Argh!

Camryn's been really sick the past few days and my house has suffered. I just don't have time to do it all.

I hope you feel better by tomorrow.

Hope you get to feeling better. I know it is hard when you aren't feeling 100% and have a household to run, if we lived closer I would bring you a big batch of Chicken Noodle Soup! Take it easy!

Oh man, that is no fun. Usually when I get sick, everything falls apart here. If my grandma is available, she'll keep the girls, if not, im on my own until my husband gets home. I hope that you get well really really soon!

I was super sick with Strep a year ago. Austin stayed home from work one day and I was able to take them to Mother'd Day out the next day. It was awful, and my house was a wreck. You aren't alone.

Yes. When Mama is sick, the whole family goes to hell in a handbasket. This is when you find out they are completely useless without you and they just find out they are ticked off that you aren't doing everything you usually do.
On a brighter note, I hope you feel well very soon.

Oh no! I'm so sorry; I hope you get to feeling better soon!

My mom was the type to never get sick, and even when she did she never went to the doctor and suffered through it. Me on the otherhand, I am a sissy. I'm sure my doctors hate me lol, but I love antibiotics :). They just work so well...

I was very sick with strep last year on my birthday of all days and to top it all off Jason was out of town! I called in reinforcements. My mom had to take Day for the night while I recovered. I don't think its goo for you to try to continue and do things when your sick. Its good that Josh is home to watch the boys. Just now the quicker you recover the quicker you can get your house in order. Rest and take care of yourself. This is kind of a sore spot with me because like most moms I don't feel like I CAN get sick. Its amazing everything us mommys actually do and how it all goes to pot when we are forced to rest! Get well soon! Sorry for the novel!

Sorry I forgot something! You also don't want to give it to the boys. I got mine from Day, I guess it is very contagious. Take some long deserved me time today!

Wow, I hope you feel better soon. It totally sucks being sick like that.

Usually my husband can't take off work when I get sick...somehow my body always manages to time getting sick with my husband's insanely busy periods at work, meaning I would have to be at death's door for him to be able to take time off.

The last time I was sick really bad, he said he had to go to work. So I sucked it up and said ok even though I felt like death warmed over. (I made it about halfway through the morning and then called him and told him that I didn't care if he got fired, he had to come home because I felt really dizzy, like I was going to faint, and I didn't want to risk that happening when I was alone with the kids.)

So he came home....to a house that was a total mess because I hadn't had the energy to do a darn thing.

Don't feel bad. I think its a universal thing-when Mommy gets sick, everything suffers. It just goes to show how important us mommies are to our family's lives...and the state of our homes!

Hope you start to feel better. When I am sick I don't bother my hubby (he is to busy at work helping other sick people, why add to his list). I try to keep on trucking even though the house may not be clean. I have even dragged the boys with me to the doctor because I didn't want to ask for help. I would much rather stay in bed and sleep but everything else needs to be done. Oh, the life of a mom has never been simple.

I feel for you-being sick is terrible, especially when you have little ones around. I always get sick when Jason is out of town (which he was out of town all the time up until recently). Usually I just push on through, and to be honest, if it is a day I work I go to work I go ahead and go to work because it is always easier for me to work than take care of my house & kids. However, about 2 months ago, I got a terrible stomach virus and of course, Jason was out of town. I held my own for 2 days, but then on the third day I was trying to open a can of soup to feed the girls and the smell made me dizzy and nauseous. I called my father-in-law, who came and fed the girls, read them books and got them ready for bed. I felt so awful I slept through it all on the couch! I started to feel better that next day but I was so thankful that he could come and help me.

Really, I think the worst part for me is knowing my kids aren't getting all their usual care just because I can't do it. I hate that.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! The laundry/cleaning/cooking, etc. will be there when you're better so don't worry about it now.
