Walking for a cause

For the past few years I have taken part in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in memory of my grandmother who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1982.

Monies raised from Relay for Life are used in funding cancer research projects, educational/awareness programs, advocacy within our local, state and federal law systems, and support services for those patients and families dealing with this life threatening disease.

This year I have been dubbed team captain for our church’s Relay for Life team. Therefore, my job is no longer just raising money for me to walk, but I am now to come up with and organize fundraisers for our entire team.

I am reaching out to you, blogging world, for any suggestions or ideas that you might have. Again, this cause is very near and dear to my heart and raising funds to help those battling with this terrible disease is one of my top priorities. Any input you might have would be greatly appreciated.

I have no suggestions, but I walked in the Hinton one with the church with my mom a few years back! We walked at night and it was really fun - when is it this year?

Way to go Melinda!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and entering the giveaway.
As far as raising money, we are selling T-shirts, selling lunches, making gift baskets that we are selling chances on and various other things. We are getting started late because my husband has been too sick for me to put too much time into the project lately....but we should see some improvement in the relay numbers soon!
Good luck with your team!

I will think about it....never having to come up with fundraising ideas before.

Thank you for doing this though. 3 years ago I lost my 2 biggest fans in my life.....my mom and my grandaddy to cancer within 4 months of each other.

I have to think about this for a while before I can share any brilliant ideas : ). How about selling cookies after the church service. Our church just did that for something and it was a big hit. Who doesn't like a cookie. Or maybe you should serve Sex in a Pan. I think that would look REALLY lovely printed in the Bulletin:
Please come to the lobby after Worship for SEX IN A PAN. We will be raising funds for the American Cancer Society... : )

LOL - yeah, I don't know that my church would fully appreciate Sex in a Pan (at least not by that name) : )
