Going bananas

Last night we went over to Nana and Papa Brookshire’s to eat dinner with them, my sister-in-law, her husband, and their two kids Brynnley and Owen.

Brynnley and Owen are very close in age with our two kids. In fact, Brynnley is 7 months older than Jack and Owen is 6 months older than Beau. It has been so neat watching them grow-up together.

Last night at dinner was particularly entertaining. Jack, for some reason, decided to start telling knock-knock jokes; and although he failed miserably at telling them, they were probably funnier than the real ones. I can’t think of a better way to tell this story except as it actually happened. So here goes…

The conversation went something like this:
Jack - “Knock-knock”
Brynnley - “Who’s there?”
Jack - “Jack Preston Brookshire” and then he started laughing.
Brynnley - “Knock-knock”
Jack - “Who’s there?”
Brynnley - “Banana”
Jack - laughed
Melinda - “Jack, you’re suppose to say “Banana who?”
Jack - (looking at me like I’m stupid) “Banana Brynnley Robin Hohmann”

Our trying to teach Jack how to do a proper knock-knock joke went on for a while but our efforts and the jokes were completely lost on him.
